Best Holiday Ever
Best Holiday Ever turned the 333-metre MSC World Europa into a moving aerial set for Iconoclast and directors WAFLA.
For almost a week, Andriu FPV took off and recovered from a ship travelling at roughly 40 km/h, moving between exteriors, waterslides, pools, interiors and social content. A ship-specific workflow kept the changing wind, deck and recovery point under control with no operational failures.
For nearly a week of consecutive shooting days, every takeoff and landing happened on the MSC World Europa, a 333-metre, 22-deck cruise ship moving at roughly 40 km/h relative to the surrounding air. The wind, deck position and recovery point were constantly changing. The work ranged from exterior ship coverage to flights through active waterslides, pool experiments, interiors and social content, all while normal ship operations and passengers continued around the production.
We developed a ship-specific workflow for moving-platform launches, approaches and recovery, then selected RAW FPV or Inspire 3 according to each sequence. The team also prototyped hybrid water shots, beginning below the surface and bringing the camera out into the scene, and created a social-media flight carrying a pizza from the kitchen through the ship to a guest's table. The project became a sustained exercise in aerial R&D with zero operational failures across the schedule.
