Amor a primera vista

The film opens on a theatre curtain the size of a cove, drawn back to reveal the Menorcan coast. The curtain did not exist on location: it was built later in VFX. That meant the camera move had to be designed around something invisible, holding a line and a frame precise enough for post to build the illusion on top of it. On the day, the wind gusted at around 50 km/h. The consensus on set was that nothing would fly.

We flew the sequence on our own custom FPV platforms, choosing airframes built to hold a line in moving air rather than to post a top speed. The move was rehearsed against marks on the water and the cliff so the framing would land where the VFX curtain was going to be, with the timing of the reveal fixed before the plate existed. The footage came back stable enough that the reaction on the monitor became part of the story of the shoot.
