TAG Heuer's Carrera, The Longest Night put Daniel Wolfe and Benoît Debie on Portimão's 4.65-kilometre circuit with almost no permanent light.
Andriu FPV learned the circuit before dark and flew at up to 130 km/h using moonlight and approaching headlights as temporary anchors, through artificial rain, dense fog and close work around a performer on the track.
The Challenge
The 4.65-kilometre Portimão circuit was filmed at night with almost no permanent lighting. The pilot often relied on moonlight and the approaching headlights of the cars for orientation while matching racing speed at up to 130 km/h. Artificial rain, dense fog and a performer positioned on the track further reduced visibility and increased the consequences of any spatial error.
Our Approach
We learned the circuit geometry in advance and treated the moving headlights as temporary visual anchors rather than dependable illumination. Flight lines were built around clear entry and exit references, with the lens selected to retain enough context in the darkness. The preparation allowed the camera to feel dangerously close while the operation remained deliberate.
