NEOM, Trojena
For NEOM Trojena, snowy Romanian mountains had to become a future destination where snowboarders appeared to travel uphill.
Andriu FPV designed camera direction, athlete movement and background flow with the VFX team before take-off. The real downhill action was filmed so it could be reversed or transformed without betraying gravity through body mechanics or snow spray.
The Challenge
The Romanian mountains had to stand in for Trojena, NEOM's future mountain destination. Snowboarders were filmed performing real downhill action, but the finished sequences needed to suggest that they were travelling uphill. The camera therefore had to support a physically impossible idea while dealing with snow, remote terrain and severe mountain conditions.
Our Approach
We worked closely with the VFX department to define camera direction, athlete movement and background flow before each flight. Lines were designed so they could be reversed or transformed without exposing contradictions in gravity, snow spray or body mechanics. The approach turned real action into a convincing impossible world rather than relying on post-production to solve everything afterwards.
